Fernández Disappeared for Several Days Before Being Found
Brian Fernández, a former forward for the Portland Timbers and Necaxa, will undergo treatment for medical reasons, according to club officials. Fernández had been missing for several days before he was found.
Fernández has a history of substance abuse and has been arrested several times for related offenses. In 2019, he was suspended for two years by the Argentine Football Association after testing positive for cocaine. He was also arrested in 2020 for possession of marijuana.
Fernández's disappearance had raised concerns among his family and friends. His mother posted a message on social media begging for help in finding him. Fernández was eventually found safe and is now receiving treatment.
The Portland Timbers released a statement saying that they are "deeply concerned" about Fernández and that they are "committed to supporting him in any way we can." Necaxa also released a statement saying that they are "hopeful that Brian can get the help he needs and return to playing the game he loves."
